GUIDELINES

INSTRUCTIONS . . .

When designing your ad, please be specific with your instructions. Do not assume that we know what you want. Always write down detailed instructions. Make sure that you point out any unusual spellings, etc.

 PHOTOS . . .

Photos are a great way to add character to your ad. Today’s technology allows you to submit your photos in several different ways.

Standard Photographs.  This is the most popular way to submit a photo for your ad. These are the prints from your film camera and have been around for a long time. Make sure your photograph but only to a certain extent. We will adjust the size and crop your photo to look nicely on your ad. However, please not that enlarging a photo loses clarity. Try to submit a photo that does not need to be enlarged but rather is the same size or needs to b e reduced. Color photos as well as black & white photos are accepted.

Digital Photos.  We accept digital photos in any standard PC format…JPG, TIF, etc. We do not accepted MAC Media of any kind. Digital Photos should be the raw data from your digital camera. Do not crop…resize…recolor in any way. We will do that. If you want to crop a photo in a special way, then make a printout and show crop marks when desired.

Scanned Photos.  We prefer that you not scan your photos. However, if you are well trained in digital photo processes, you may submit your photos in this manner. Please make sure that your photos have a resolution of at least 300 DPI at the actual size the photo will appear in the ad.

Please Do Not send photos that have been printed on an ink jet or last printer. We will not accept these.

Please Do Not send photos clipped out of a magazine or newspaper or brochure, etc. These have been digitized and cannot be reproduced with any acceptable results.

Please Do Not send digital photos taken from Internet websites. These do not have the resolution needed for printed materials.

We can drop the background from any photo for an additional charge. These will depend on number of people in the photo and detail of background.

 LOGOS & LINE ART . . .

When submitting logos and line art, please see that they are clean and clear. There will be an additional charge for any extensive art cleanup required.

Business Cards.  Please do not send a business card with our logo and expect us to enlarge it. As with photos, please make sure your logos and line art are at lease full size or larger than we require. Business cards can be used as a guide for your ad layout, but we cannot use the artwork from them.

Newspaper Ads.  As with business cards, newspaper ads can be used as a guideline only. Unless the artwork from a newspaper ad is at lease the same size or larger than needed for your ad, we cannot use it.

 AD AGENCIES . . .

If you use an ad agency, we prefer film output with a screen frequency of about 75 to 85 LPI. Positive ad slicks are also acceptable. Bleeds are accepted only on full page advertising. All bordered ads should be restricted to the sizes shown on the included layout page.

IF YOU SUBMIT YOUR AD ON DISK . . .

There are several things to consider when designing your own ad and submitting it on disk. If you use non standard fonts you must convert those fonts to curves. The best way to do this is to use a PDF conversion program such as PDFCreater. PDFCreater is available free online. Once installed on your machine, you simply print to PDFCreater instead of your printer and a PDF file is crated which can be sent on disk to us. Also, be sure to change all your colored graphics and type to black and white or grayscale. Most ads that are created in color do not have the impact when converted to black and white or grayscale. By creating your ad in black and white or grayscale, you will be able to judge the result.
